Happenings in the City

The Community Center has bailed its way out of the Monday morning sewer problems. Everything is back to normal and operating normally. Also at Parks & Recreation, the fall rec programs are in full swing. The youth soccer and football programs have great participation. Go teams!
The Finance Department is finalizing the 2009 City Audit and working on the 2011 City Budget. City Council will hold its annual work session this evening, Tuesday, September 21st. Copies of the draft budget are available at City Hall.
The Police Department has started its "Good Neighbor Program". Neighborhoods that have experienced loud party noise complaints or littering issues are visited by the PD with the hopes that problems can be resolved within the neighborhood - not in the courts.
The Public Works crews are tearing up the 100 Block of West Georgia Avenue. Thanks to everyone for their patience during this paving project. The street will hopefully be sporting a new asphalt mat by the end of the week. The City irrigation ditches will be turned off the week of October 4th. Don't forget to drain and remove your ditch pump to prevent damage. Sturgeon Electric is repacing rotten utlity poles. Finally, the crews are hauling approximately 3000 yards of tree chips from the tree dump to the Wastewater Treatment Plant to be made into compost. This is the yard waste produced by our citizens. What a great way to save energy and produce a useable, sustainable product! Go Green Gunnison!
Have a great week!
