USAPCC 2011 Racing onto Main Street

The 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge has started.  Minutes ago, riders in the 16 teams participating in this year's race left the starting line in Durango.  These 100 plus riders, representing 24 different countires, will race across Colorado, through the 12 hosting cities, over the next 6 days, in their search for glory on the winners podium in the shadow of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver.

And we'll see all this action in person, starting TOMORROW, Tuesday, August 21st - as the racers start in Montrose, traverse Highway 50, and pass through Gunnison.  They will enter the City from the west on Main Street, make the turn north past the Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department's large American Flag, onto Main Street, then race the three short blocks to the turn onto Georgia Avenue.  The riders will then sprint up the Escalante Drive Hill around our beautiful Western State Colorado University Campus before they head downhill,to Colorado Street, past the Gunnison Community Center, back to Main Street/Highway 135.  They end their challenging day by climbing the steep grade from Crested Butte into Mt. Crested Butte.  Get out and cheer on the riders!
