The City of Gunnison incorporated on February 28, 1880. The residents of Gunnison enjoy a healthy and safe community with clear skies, and a myriad of outdoor recreation opportunites. The City provides services to enhance the quality of life for our citizens including recreation in our parks, hiking trails, outdoor and indoor ice rinks, and community center with a climbing wall and 2 indoor pools.

City Election Update
The Regular Municipal Election will take place on May 10, 2011 (second Tuesday in May). This date is set forth by the City Home Rule Charter. Council Candidate petitions have been sent out, received back and verified/certified for 6 candidates. There are three Council terms availbale this year. The six Council Candidates for this year's election are (in alphabetic order): Robert E. Drexel; Scott Frazier; Jim Gelwicks; Jonathan D. Houck; Greg Larson; and Ed Seymour. Also on this year's ballot are two ballot questions. Ballot Question No. 1 is for voter's to decide whether to allow Medical Marijuana Centers (also known as medical marijuana dispensaries), Optional Premises Cultivation Operations (medicial marijuana grow centers), and medical marijuana-infused products manufactureres within the City limits of Gunnison. Ballot Question No. 2 asks the voters, if medicial marijuana centers and the associated operations are allowed within the City, should an additional 5% sales tax be imposed on the purchase price paid for medical marijuana and medical marijuana-infused products. The Election is being conducted as a mail ballot election and ballots should be mailed to voters on Wednesday, April 20th.
