The Mat is going down!

The City's asphalt contractor, Pavement Management Services, is busy placing the asphalt "mat" on the 100 Block of West Virginia. The crews will be working on Friday until the pavement is complete. The north driving lane has been opened for vehicular traffic. If you are driving through the area, please be very cautious and watch for the construction trucks, City streets crew, pedestrians and bicyclists. It is a very congested and busy area during the project.

It's Friday evening of a beautiful Indian Summer day. Head on over to the Gunnison Community Pool for the "Dive at 5" kids program. There are supervised games and a lot of splish-splashing fun. After supper, as the planet Venus (some call it the evening star) sets in the West and Jupiter starts it's climb in the East - head out to the Gunnison Valley Observatory, located on Gold Basin Road across from Hartman Rocks Recreation area. The gates open at 7:30pm with viewing through the publicly-owned 30" telescope taking place at dusk. It should be a clear, crisp night for viewing. There is a $3.00 requested donation per person. Dress warmly - it can be cool once the sun sets.

Saturday, locally grown and Western slope produce is still available at the Gunnison Farmer's Market, located on East Virginia Ave. Head over and pick up some healthy and delicious produce and baked goods. You can even partake in some yummy southern style "vittles" from Sugah's Restaurant.

The aspens are starting to change to their autumn golden splendor. Take some time to do some "leaf peeping" in the Gunnison Valley this weekend. Take a picnic and hike, bike, boat or drive to enjoy the view. Have a fun and safe weekend in Gunnison!
