In anticipation of Friday, December 3rds "Night of Lights", the City Electric, Public Works, and Parks crews have been busy decking the halls of Gunnison! This is a tremendous task in putting up the street light pole wreaths and garlands, cutting and installing the South Main Street Christmas Tree, lighting up the downtown street trees with twinkly lights and making sure Santa will make an appearance.
In anticipation of the season, the City Electric Crew started decorating the street light poles before Thanksgiving. It takes a while to make sure everything is up securely and is in working order prior to the festivities.
This year's holiday tree was generously donated by the Schwatz family at 208 S. Colorado Street. The City crews cut, transported and installed the tree on Monday, November 29th. Lights, garland and ornaments were then added to the beautiful green boughs.
The Streets & Alley crew have ensured that Santa paid a visit. You can see the jolly old elf on the new pedestrian bridge over the Gunnison River at the west edge of town. On Donner and Blintzen!
Friday evening, the Streets Crew will barricade the side streets along Main Street for the Annual Night of Lights. The Police Department will help with traffic control and the intersection of Main and Tomichi will be closed at 6:30pm to ensure everyone safely crosses the street for the tree lighting. It takes a lot of work on everyones part but it is worth it! Get out and enjoy this fun and festive kick-off to the holiday season.
Many thanks to all of these City Christmas Elves for their assistance in making this a fun and safe annual event!
